Welcome to Beaver Hills Retreat! Below you’ll find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions about booking, check-in and check-out, amenities, trails, firewood, pets, parking, and more.

What is your maximum occupancy?

In accordance with Beaver Hills Retreat’s short-term rental insurance policy, the maximum occupancy is 4 people, including children.

Can I have visitors?

Sorry, but additional guests or visitors are not permitted on the property. Only guests who were originally included on the reservation may stay at or visit the Retreat.

Can I have a special event or wedding at the cabin or on the property?

No. Due to our short-term rental insurance policy, the property may not be used for events, parties, weddings, or as a venue of any kind.

This includes, but is not limited to, using the cabin as a bridal suite or wedding preparation location for weddings at nearby venues.


How can I make a reservation at Beaver Hills Retreat?

We recommend booking directly through our website. If you have any questions or need assistance with your reservation, please feel free to contact us. We’re happy to help!

What is the difference between booking directly and booking through VRBO, Airbnb, or another online site?

Online travel agencies (OTAs), such as VRBO and Airbnb, are trusted ways to make a reservation. However, they may charge additional service or booking fees.

When you book directly with Beaver Hills Retreat, you can avoid OTA service fees, receive our guaranteed lowest available rate, and enjoy direct, personalized service from your hosts.

How will I know if my booking was successful?

Within minutes of completing your reservation, you will receive a booking confirmation email with your check-in and check-out dates and your reservation number.

If you don’t receive your confirmation email, please contact us.

How much will I be charged when I make my reservation?

Your reservation is paid in full at the time of booking.

The nightly rate is based on 2 guests. An additional charge of $25 per night, per person applies for each guest over 2, up to the maximum occupancy of 4.

Applicable GST and Alberta Tourism Levy will also be added to your reservation.

Do you offer monthly rates?

No. Beaver Hills Retreat is a short-term rental with a maximum stay of 20 nights.

What is your cancellation policy?

Our cancellation policy is:

  • 90% refund when cancelled 30 days or more before the Check-in Date
  • 75% refund when cancelled 10–29 days before the Check-in Date
  • No refund for cancellations made less than 10 days before the Check-in Date

No refunds are provided for inclement weather or family emergencies when the cancellation occurs after the applicable cancellation deadline.

We encourage all guests to consider purchasing travel insurance to protect against unexpected circumstances.

What time is check-in?

Check-in is between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Do you allow early check-ins?

If we’re able to accommodate an early check-in, we will be happy to do so.

Please contact us before your scheduled check-in date to inquire. If an early check-in is approved, you will receive an email confirming the approved arrival time.

Without written confirmation from us, please do not arrive before the standard 5:00 p.m. check-in time.

Do you allow late check-ins?

Yes! Late check-ins can be accommodated.

If you plan to arrive after 8:00 p.m., please let us know in advance so we can make the appropriate arrangements.

How do I get the keys to the cabin?

When you arrive at Beaver Hills Retreat, please proceed directly to the cabin.

The cabin will be unlocked and ready for you between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Your keys will be waiting for you in the kitchen along with an information package.

If you plan to arrive after 8:00 p.m., please contact us in advance so we can make alternative arrangements for your arrival.

What time is check-out?

Check-out is at 11:00 a.m.

Do you allow late check-outs?

We ask that guests please adhere to the 11:00 a.m. check-out time so we have enough time to prepare the cabin for our next arriving guests.

If you have a special circumstance, please contact us and we’ll let you know if an exception is possible.

What am I required to do at check-out?

We keep check-out simple. Before leaving, please:

  • Load and start the dishwasher
  • Leave the beds you used unmade
  • Remove any food you brought with you from the refrigerator and cabinets
  • Check drawers, cabinets, closets, and outlets to make sure you have all your belongings

That’s it! We’ll take care of the rest.

What is included with the rental?

Your stay includes exclusive use of the 10-acre property, including:

  • The fully furnished cabin

  • Outdoor spaces

We also provide 24/7 guest support. If you have a question or concern during your stay, your on-site hosts are just a phone call or text message away.

What supplies can I expect to find in the cabin?

The kitchen is fully equipped for your stay and includes:

We’ve tried to include the little things that help make your stay feel like home.

Do you supply ice?

Yes! The refrigerator has a built-in ice maker, and you can expect fresh ice when you arrive.

Does the cabin include linens, bedding, and towels?

Yes. All beds are made with fresh linens before your arrival.

Bath towels, hand towels, washcloths, and dish towels are provided based on the maximum permitted occupancy.

Can I smoke or vape at the Retreat?

Smoking and vaping are not permitted inside the cabin or on the walking trails.

Smoking and vaping are permitted outdoors on the patio or around the fire pit.

Does the cabin have internet access?

Yes! The cabin is equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi.

What entertainment is available?

The cabin has a 50-inch Smart TV with a full cable package and Netflix.

Does the cabin have air conditioning and heating?

Yes! The cabin is equipped with seasonal air conditioning to help keep you comfortable during warmer weather.

When temperatures drop, you’ll stay cozy with in-floor radiant heating and a seasonal 40,000 BTU fireplace.

Is the water safe to drink?

Yes. The cabin has potable city water, which is safe for drinking and cooking.

Does Beaver Hills Retreat have walking trails?

Yes! Beaver Hills Retreat has more than 3 km of private walking trails, offering guests a wonderful opportunity to explore the property and enjoy the natural surroundings.

The trails are suitable for walking and snowshoeing.

Are the trails available year-round?

We do our best to keep the trails accessible throughout the year. However, trail access may be limited or unavailable due to weather conditions, snow, flooding, or other natural events beyond our control.

Please use caution and follow any trail-access information provided during your stay.


Do you supply firewood?

When available, we offer dry, seasoned firewood at cost.

$40 for an 80-pound bag

We recommend contacting us in advance to confirm availability.

Please note that fire-pit use is prohibited during fire bans issued by the County of Strathcona.

Can I bring my own firewood?

Sorry, guests are not permitted to bring their own firewood onto the property.

Firewood can carry insects, fungi, and diseases that may threaten healthy trees. Infested firewood can introduce destructive pests such as beetles, termites, and carpenter ants, potentially causing serious and irreversible damage to the surrounding forest.

How can I find out if a fire ban is in effect?

Is Beaver Hills Retreat dog-friendly?

Absolutely! We love dogs. What would a retreat be without your fur baby? 🐾

We welcome one well-trained dog per stay, subject to our pet policy.

Is Beaver Hills Retreat cat-friendly?

Unfortunately, we do not accept cats due to allergy concerns.

What is your pet policy?

If you’re bringing a dog, the dog must be registered at the time of booking.

Our pet policy includes:

  • One well-trained dog per stay
  • Dogs are not permitted on beds or in loft areas
  • Excessive pet hair in these areas may result in additional cleaning charges
  • Owners must pick up after their dogs
  • Dogs may not be left unattended on the property
  • Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times during birding season
  • non-refundable one-time pet fee of $100 applies

To make your dog’s stay more comfortable, we provide:

  • Large dog bed
  • Blanket
  • Towel
  • Water dish
  • Food dish
  • Gate to help keep dogs out of the loft area

Do you charge for parking?

No. Parking is included with your stay.

How many vehicles can you accommodate?

We have parking available for up to 3 vehicles.

Can I plug in my vehicle?

Yes, but please note that we have only one outdoor electrical outlet available for guest use.

If you need to use the outlet, please be considerate of other guests and contact us if you have any questions.
